what was the inspiration behind this shoot concept?
When designing the shoot, I really wanted to blend modern romance with fun vibrance. Using the venue as inspiration, with it’s 180* views from Perth city, up the river to the Swan Valley, a contemporary vibe was assured. I chose a dynamic colour palette of orange & fuchsia, with accents of gold (for a luxe touch), to tease liveliness & a ‘girly’ edge.
The ceremony style was based around an amazing balloon structure, complemented with a circular arbour & black Bentwood chairs. The sassy balloon motif was mirrored on the bar, where yummy raspberry cocktails were lined up, ready for all those thirsty guests! The reception was a total immersion in playful luxury, from the marble-topped tables to a tiered orange-and-gold cake; from a low-hanging chandelier; to the citrus napkins.
Kaylee wore a runway-worthy peach gown, with an embroidered floral bodice for the ceremony, before changing into a reception dress made of delicate lace, with long sleeves and a diamante belt. Chantelle started in an elegant satin dress in crisp white, & then moved to her party dress; a backless lace gown, with a high neckline (that
complimented her high pony!).
The day wasn’t your traditional sunny wedding day that most brides wish for. There were heavy, dark clouds in every direction, hinting at a downpour soon to come…but as I always say, you’ve gotta work with what mother nature gives you! The darkness of the clouds actually made the vibrant colours really POP & the diffused lighting was incredible for the photos.
what led you to decide on this venue/shoot location?
The venue actually approached me to design a series of styled shoots for their wedding advertising, so I put together a lookbook (that matched their brand vibe), & created this amazing team of vendors who helped me bring the kick-ass vision to life!
fave detail:
OMG, there are way too many things about this shoot that I drool over! I’m a total sucker for balloons, so the balloon garland is probably one of my highlights… and that STUNNING peach-and-floral gown that Kaylee wore during the ceremony. It’s so different; I imagine that it’s something a princess would wear on the red carpet! Apart from that, my team of amazing vendors are just wonderful beautiful humans & I can’t love them all more!
fave moment:
I really loved watching the space transform in a matter of hours, from a total blank canvas, to this incredible scene that I’d been envisioning for months. It’s something that
all creative people would understand & it’s SO freaking satisfying!
