SYDNEY / KERRIN X JACOB: GOLDEN AGE CINEMA WEDDING

A modern love story where cinematic drama meets soul

If you ever needed proof that Tinder can deliver the real thing, Jacob and Kerrin are it—effortless, cinematic and filled with perfect moments. For Kerrin & Jacob, it all began with a simple swipe and quickly evolved into something far deeper: a connection that carried them from a Pyrmont pub to a windswept mountain peak and ultimately into a wedding day that felt less like stepping inside their own beautifully curated world captured by Rachel Gutierrez Photography.

After they chatted across the weekend via an app, by Monday night, they were sitting across from each other at The Quarryman's, sipping away, chatting and connecting comfortably. Jacob invited Kerrin back to his inner-city apartment to meet his darling bordoodle, Harriet, wowing her with his beautifully curated space and how deeply loved Harriet was.

After plenty of easeful conversation, Jacob walked Kerrin back to her car, finishing the night with a hug and a wave goodbye - both of them knowing without words that their universes had just collided with someone truly special. They set up date number two for the very next night. The beginning of everything.

Building a World, Not Just a Wedding

Jacob and Kerrin wanted their guests to feel like they were stepping into their world for a night - enveloped in authenticity, love and intention. Because their ceremony was a film starring them (Act I), they wanted their reception (Act II) to be a space where they co-created the next chapter of their story alongside their guests.

There were details - like a roaming brass band bringing spontaneous joy, custom movie posters, popcorn boxes, and tambourines, but truly the night was less about individual details and more about bringing their ideas of authenticity, love and intention to life with the support of their incredible vendors.

With styling by Sub Subtle, the space felt layered, intentional, and deeply personal. DJ Mikekon kept the dancefloor alive, and MC Here Cams Trouble guided the evening with ease. Every moment was captured beautifully by Rachel Gutierrez Photography, preserving the emotion and energy of a night that felt truly immersive. While Baked Collective created a cake moment worthy of its own spotlight.

The Climb, The Chaos, The “Yes”

Jacob and Kerrin were on holiday in the Victorian Alps one year. As an avid ultra marathon runner, Jacob had taken time out to run up Mount Feathertop - a steep and fairly gruelling 22km trail to the top of the mountain and back. The breathtaking panoramic views at the summit were all it took to convince him it had to happen there.

That night, giddy with excitement, he convinced Kerrin the views were so good she couldn't miss them - even though she wasn't much of a hiker herself. The funniest part of the story is that Kerrin had no idea a proposal was coming, and the hike was so gruelling she nearly didn't make it to the top. Hot, tired and depleted, all it took was a blowfly landing on her to send her into a fit of tears.

A kilometre from the summit, Jacob thought for a second they were going to have to turn around and head home. But a ham sandwich and a bit of encouragement got her there. The proposal happened at the summit, surrounded by butterflies - and it was perfect.

A Ceremony, Reimagined

Before even stepping foot into the venue, Jacob and Kerrin had already decided their wedding was going to centre around an unconventional ceremony. Being a marriage celebrant herself, Kerrin didn't want to follow the script of having a celebrant replay their story (potentially making the day feel like 'being at work'), so their guests stepped into a film experience featuring interviews and iPhone footage collected over five years.

Hosted within the moody, romantic interiors of Golden Age Cinema & Bar, the setting brought their vision to life with velvet drapery, warm lighting, and just the right amount of intrigue. And while they knew Golden Age could support their ceremony film dreams, it was the fitout, the luxe chairs and the drapery across the cinema and bar that truly sealed the deal. The venue oozed warmth, charm and the perfect amount of mysterious sex appeal. One tour was all it took to steal their hearts.

Fashion That Felt Like Them

Jacob and Kerrin had an incredibly easy and fun experience choosing their wedding outfits, because they both entered the journey with a very clear idea of what they wanted. Kerrin found her dream look at Aston Bridal, landing on a a sculptural, strapless silk gown that felt timeless and powerful — that made her feel like she'd been cut from marble — paired with accessories from Mrs in the Making. Beauty by Airlie and Co and My Tanning Lady completed the vision.

Jacob visited Suit Supply, moving in the direction of a velvet suit jacket in a rich navy - really leaning into the jewel-toned and luxuriously-textured theme of their whole wedding. Going into outfit shopping with clarity made all the difference.

The Meaning of Marriage

Marriage is the unwavering dedication to helping another person reach their potential. It's the commitment to doing the work when things are hard. It's a vocation of truly listening and seeing someone, and showing them you love every part of them - even the parts they haven't yet learned to love themselves.

Advice From the Heart

Jacob and Kerrin found that indecision puts up the biggest hurdles, and sticking your head in the sand is an excellent way to let the snowball of overwhelm build. Decide things together, decide quickly, move on, and celebrate the milestones as you get closer to keep things fun. If your heart tells you that you want a truly unique wedding - one that oozes you and no one else - don't be afraid to start completely from scratch.

Pull back any preconceived ideas about what a wedding should look like, and build it back up piece by piece to create the kind of feeling and experience you want. They'll be the first to say it's not the easiest way to plan a wedding. You've really got to think, communicate and negotiate to get it right. It's a team sport, and you've both got to be engaged in the process.

But they'll never forget their night - and so many of their friends said the same thing. It was worth every moment of planning, because it meant every detail was a piece of their own hearts - and Jacob and Kerrin had the privilege of sharing that with a room full of their favourite people.
